Dyeing process of wool- 100% practical use documentation


Wool is the animal textile fiber. It comes from sheep and other animals including cashmere and mohair from goats, qiviut from muskoxen, hide and fur clothing from bison, angora from rabbits, and some wools from chemicals. It consists of full protein but a small amount of lipid. The dyeing process of wool is nothing but an acid dyeing process.

Short description of acid dyes:

Acid dyes are water soluble dyes. It is anionic in nature. It is applied in acidic medium. Here ionic bond is created between the fiber and dye molecule. Light fastness quite good. Wash fastness is poor.

Step by step dyeing process of wool of knit fabric:

Fabric load

Detergent hot 80’C

Drain and wash

wool dyeing

Control PH 4.5-5.50

 Dyes 3% (Depends on shade)

Tempeture 40c color dosing 10 minute  

980c/10c * 30 minute


Shade check

Soaping  agent  800c*15 minute

Shade check

Fixing  agent for nylon pH  5-5.5

Dyeing process of wool is very simple. But it has some precaution

  • Should not use higher alkali during scouring.
  • Enzyme Can destroy the fabric so that it should avoid this.
